In their final game before the all-star break, the Winnipeg Goldeyes sprayed the baseball all over U.S. Steel Yard, but with the performance starting pitcher Chris Salamida turned it, it was a bit of overkill. Salamida pitched a complete-game shutout Sunday afternoon, as the Goldeyes (43-25) hammered the Gary SouthShore RailCats (39-29) 12-0. "All these games in Gary are close, even at home weve played some close games," Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea said on the Jewel 101 post-game show. "All these wins are tough to get, but when you get a blowout win like, its nice to have, especially going into the all-star break." The win increases Winnipegs lead to three games in the American Associations North Division. After scoring the games first run in the top of the first inning, the Goldeyes busted open a tight game with six runs on six hits in the top of the sixth inning off RailCats starter Morgan Coombs. Eleven Goldeyes came to the plate in the inning, which was highlighted by Luis Alens two-RBI double that tied Fehlandt Lentini for the franchise record in doubles with 123. Winnipeg added three more runs in the top of the seventh, as Casey Haerther hit a solo home run and Donnie Webb and Jake Blackwood added RBI doubles. The Goldeyes continued to pile it on with two runs in the top of the eighth. Haerther drove in another run with a single and Reggie Abercrombie drilled another RBI double. Winnipeg racked up 16 hits in the game. Abercrombie led the way with a four-for-five afternoon at the dish and four RBI. Haerther was also productive with a three-for-five day with a home run and three RBI. While the offensive surge was going on in the top of the late innings, Salamida was dominate against the RailCats batting order all afternoon, allowing just four hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Its his third complete-game shutout in a Goldeyes uniform, moving him into a tie with Roger Luque for second all-time in Goldeyes history. "I told Sal to go out there and fill up the strike zone. Thats what he did," Vermilyea said. "He threw his fastball to both sides of the plate. He was able to throw that slider early in the count for a strike and expand with it late. When he has both of those pitches working, hes going to be hard to hit." The Goldeyes will now take a two-day break for the 2014 American Association All-Star Celebrations, which happen in downtown Winnipeg on Monday and Tuesday. Brad Brach Jersey .
